Hi, my name is Joanna Meek and I moved to Australia with my husband in 2000 from the UK. We brought our Greyhound Chuckles with us, and from there our pack began to grow! Like most people I have had my successes and failures with dogs but it was the arrival of our abused rescue dog Astro, a Jack Russell x, in 2002 that led me to seek help as he proceeded to destroy our house! Shortly after, our third Dog Tina, another greyhound arrived as a short term Foster Dog. She moved into our hearts and never left! With our ever growing pack, it was important for me to get a proper understanding of their behaviour if we were to maintain a happy home. I had read Jan Fennell's book, "The Dog Listener" but had not implemented the method properly but chaos at home meant I had to try harder. So I re-read the book and started to practice the Amichien Bonding method on our dogs. I began to see some results with all the dogs but we still had a long way to go. When Jan came to Australia in 2006, to give the first Foundation Course, I jumped at the chance to learn more. From then on, I was hooked! It was such an amazing revelation that this method was so kind and non confrontational and it really worked! I travelled to the UK to complete the Advanced Course in Canine Communication early 2007. I was keen to get back to Australia and begin helping as many dog's and people as I could. I am very fortunate to have found a career that I am truly passionate about and it is so rewarding to be able to help people and their dogs to change their lives forever. I am currently involved in Foster Care for the Greyhound Adoption Programme in Victoria. As foster carers, we aim to help Greyhounds with the transition from kennel life to life as a pet. The dogs come to live with us and learn about everyday life from us and the rest of the pack. I have found that Amichien Bonding has been the kindest and most successful method to help these beautiful dogs. My ambition for the future is to help people to understand & listen to their dogs, for them to learn their language and to ultimately lead their dogs and themselves to a happier life. |
