MOKSHA

I saved Moksha from an unknown future after her family had to give her away.  At the time she was around 1 year old and she had a free reign on the farm growing up with a goat, sheep and chasing bats.   Although she attended dog training, Moksha did not have doggy manners.  It took us good 2 years to  stop the pulling and over excitement.  Her recall was bad too.

My sister and I decided to  engage Jo's services after several episodes which left us with no choice.  My sister found Jo through recommendations from a friend who was very happy with the results  Jo delivered.  Once we understood the method, everything made total sense.  Although Moksha had behavioural issues, I had to change my approach to navigating her behaviour at home and outdoors.

It took some getting used to and lots of patience.  With Jo's help I can say safely that I trust Moksha at outdoor situations, with some things requiring fine tuning of course.  She mingles with other dogs nicely, but follows me when needed.  Changing her diet has also been a big contributor. Going back to 100% raw is actually easy and her weight is so much easier to control!  The follow up calls are also great!

I'd like to thank Jo for making me understand dogs! It's challenging at the start but the change is just amazing when your dog responds to your demands.  I highly recommend Jo if you are serious about fixing those nagging behavioural issues.  There's nothing like a happy well behaved dog!

Thank you so much Jo!

SACHI

We live in Central Victoria and were recommended to engage Jo Meek after accepting responsibility for an abandoned guard dog breed that is known to be hard to manage in the best of circumstances. With Jo based south-east of Melbourne, we ran sessions together via FaceTime and found it worked beautifully, just like having Jo in the room.

Our adopted dog, Sachi, came to us with much trauma from over two years of mistreatment followed by months of roaming the bush starved and alone. An Anatolian Shepherd, Sachi is genetically geared to be fiercely protective of his family.

Once he found a safe and loving home with us, that protective nature kicked in with aplomb but was married with continued anxious behaviour stemming from his traumatic history. Jo has helped us to not only master the basics of speaking Sachi’s language to help him maintain daily routines but to also target and improve upon specific behavioural issues displayed by Sachi due to his history.

Sachi has come a long, long way since we first brought him home a year ago and it is us, his owners, that can get a tad forgetful with what he needs and that is where being able to contact Jo at any time is so reassuring. A brief text or call and, when required, another FaceTime session for longer review, has been key to helping us reset our management of Sachi and ensure we’re all on the right path together.

I strongly urge anyone to enlist Jo’s help whether they just want to get the most from their relationship with their dog, or to also regain some normality where bringing home a traumatised dog can throw one’s life into chaos.  Jo’s clear communication style, positive reinforcement and helpful techniques all work together to give one the tools and confidence one needs to feel and act like a well-controlled, responsible and loving dog owner. We’re forever grateful.

Thanks, Jo!

Joanne.

JAX

As an older family of four we welcomed Jax into our home as a rescue puppy from the Working Dogs Association 3 years ago. We were well aware a Border Collie x Kelpie is a high energy breed and as an active family we didn't have a problem with that. We quickly discovered he was very intelligent and successfully trained him to a point, we thought!

But as the years passed his territorial behaviour became an issue. Some of these unsettling traits included barking at guests and neighbours, nipping at other dogs on walks and at times he would even growl at us. On top of this he would naw at his paws, be selective about his eating and be ball obsessed.

Clearly we hadn't got it right!

As soon as Jo met Jax she had him all worked out and he knew she was not just another visitor. Within just a few weeks we saw changes in Jax's behaviour, what a huge relief not only for us but for him too. It is a work in progress but we are delighted with the gentle nature of the training that Jo teaches you to implement.

We can't thank you enough Jo for your wisdom and support, you truely understand the language of dogs as well as their owners!

With much gratitude,

the Meyn family.

JACK

We adopted Jack from an RSPCA shelter after he was bought in by the Inspectorate due to neglect. We had always had dogs from the puppy age but had never rescued an older, mistreated pet with behavioural issues and anxiety problems.

Jack was 10 years old when we bought him home and came with a long list of potential medical issues.  He was a scared, mistreated boy who had physical signs of neglect, and was extremely overwhelmed by the outside world.  Realising we may need some extra help with Jack’s transition into his new home, and putting him in behavioural classes was not necessarily the best option for him, a neighbour recommended we enlist the help of Joanna.

Joanna’s first consultation was incredibly helpful as it gave us some short-term strategies to immediately assist with Jack’s behaviour as well as putting together a long-term plan to help him settle into his ‘doggy retirement’.  We loved Joanna’s holistic approach, from understanding Jack’s behaviour right through to his diet, veterinary recommendations and natural therapies.

Seeing Jack’s transformation over the past 8 months from an anxious, scared and reclusive soul to a calmer, confident and now often cheeky boy is testament to Joanna’s skill and experience.

We cannot thank Joanna enough for all the advice and guidance she has taught us, which we’ll be able to apply for all our future adoptions.

Most of all we are extremely grateful Jack now has the best chance of living a longer happier life and enjoying the retirement he deserves.

SOLOMON

I’ve had Solomon since he was 8 weeks old, I knew from pretty early on, he was very different to my other Labs I have had.

He is incredibly smart - but also incredibly head strong! The most head strong boy I have had!

I had heard about Jo from a co-worker and after trying all the methods that have worked for me in the past but weren’t working now - I contacted Jo.

I am so glad I did! She has a different approach to anything I have done before, but I gave her methods ago and they are amazing.

Solomon is a totally different dog now and it all came down to training me to be a better leader for him.

We can now walk past dogs barking at fences and he doesn’t react, he’d recall is now fantastic and we are now both much more confident in our roles.

No question was too big or silly for Jo and being able to text /Call whenever needed was a god sent.

I couldn’t recommend Jo any more highly she’s fantastic and all advice / help has been great appreciated!

MURPHY

Couldn’t recommend Joanna more highly. From the outset she helped us prepare for our puppy’s arrival home, get the house ready and the drive home. And all subsequent stages our little puppy has gone through over the past few months.

More importantly helped us understand pack behaviour to allow our Puppy be a dog not an accessory.

He was toilet trained within a week, crate trained from day one. And walks off the lead with fabulous recall.

She has always made herself available for us via phone, FaceTime, and in person for training, food and supplement recommendations.

We are so thankful and couldn’t have asked for a more well trained and adjusted puppy.
